P90x Day 29 - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps and Ab Ripper X

Officially started Phase 2 of this thing.  Today's workout was surprisingly easy, yet challenging at the same time.  I know that doesn't make any sense.  What I mean to say is that in doing the 24 exercises, I wasn't overwhelmed with weird moves, ridiculous reps or something in between.  I definitely can tell that my flexibility is increasing, and my overall strength has improved.  As to whether I've lost weight. You be the judge.

Ab Ripper X - much better now. I'd say I'm at 90% of what they are doing.  My back and hip-flexors still get a bit sore doing a couple, but steadily improving.

Plyometrics tomorrow! Yea haw.

P90x Day 28 - Day off

Today was either stretch or day off.  I elected day off, primarily because I ran out of time.
Phase 2 starts tomorrow.

P90x Day 27 - Yoga X

Pretty frustrated with this workout.  I was falling out of poses, not terribly focused, and felt pretty weak all around.  That being said I did manage to hold a couple of poses that I haven't been to, so there's that I guess.

I don't know if I'll get to the stretch tomorrow.  It is optional, but I hate missing a day.  We'll see.

Pretty much ends recovery week.

P90x Day 26 - Core Synergistics

Boy, this is one is tough.  I can make it through everything, but it leaves me very fatigued afterward. Not sure if it's the fact that I'm working a bit harder or I'm just that weak.  In any case, it's a good and bad feeling.

The plank/chaturanga  runs - those are great fun.

I think it's Yoga tomorrow. I don't know.  I'm too tired to look...back to work.

The end.

P90x Day 25 - X Stretch

It's amazing to me how changing my schedule really demotivated me.  I didn't workout yesterday, because I pushed everything up 1 day to account for my travel schedule.  Anyhow, I nearly made a reasonable justification for not doing the stretch today.  I can't imagine what would have happened, had it been plyometrics or yoga.

In any case, it felt good to stretch, and am definitely getting a bit more flexible although my left side feels really tight.  Probably from driving.

Anyhow, it's Core Synergistics tomorrow.  Awesome.

P90x Day 23/24 - Kenpo X

So I got up at 3:30 am this morning to do Kenpo X, before taking off for a road trip.

Two things to note: 1) working out immediately after waking up is really not a good idea.  The first 30 minutes were great, but I started crashing and barely made it through the exercise.  I did though and it felt good otherwise.  and 2) don't do a leg heavy workout then get in a car for 4 hours.  Makes things pretty stiff.

Tomorrow is my rest day, so I'll officially be back on day 25.

P90x Day 22/23 - Core Synergistics

So technically this is my 22nd day of working out, but because I skipped the "rest" day, I'm actually on the 23rd day of workouts.  After Wednesday, all will be right with the world.

I thought this was supposed to be recovery week.  I don't know if I had a hard time because of previous nights activities, or if it's just that hard, but I was WORKING this session.  In fact, it's been a few hours since I did the workout, and I'm still fatigued.  It feels great, I'm just a bit surprised.

Getting up at 3:30 am tomorrow to Kenpo X, before taking off.

P90x Day 21/22 X stretch. Yoga X

Due to schedule I skipped the rest and went on to recovery week a day early.

Yoga was hard primarily because I had kids wanting to exercise with me, so I was pretty distracted, but managed to get through it.

Something new tomorrow - core synergistics.

P90x Day 20 - Kenpo X

Not as good as the other sessions.  My right shoulder and neck felt pretty pinched for most of this, so I was backing off a little.  I still managed to get a decent workout in, but probably not what it could have been.

Tomorrow is supposed to be my rest day, but I think I'm going to do X Stretch and Yoga X tomorrow, because I will be traveling for a couple of days, and will have to miss Tuesday's workout, so I figure if I move everything up a day, I should be right back on schedule on Wednesday.

Or I might just reverse the workouts, and try to squeeze Yoga in early Tuesday morning.

Not sure. We'll be see.

P90x Day 19 - Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X

So I kinda rushed today's workout.  I did all the sets, but skipped Tony's talking to get through it, so I could get to an appointment.  Needless to say, this is probably my least favorite workout.  My legs were achy from Yoga yesterday, and I just get frustrated when I can't do 300 pull ups like Tony does.

The one thing that made a huge difference was doing Ab Ripper first.  I breezed through it and maybe only missed about 10 or 15 reps out of all the exercises.  My lower back is getting stronger, which makes doing "crunchy frog" and "bicycles" that much easier.

Looking forward to slapping the air tomorrow.

P90x Day 18 - Yoga X

I barely made it to this one today. Some of the poses are getting better, am able to stay in them longer.
I've also noticed a general increase in strength, so that's good.

That is all.

P90x Day 17 - Shoulders & Arms and Ab Ripper X

Managed to get this workout in during lunch break. It went pretty well. Upped my rep count and resistance quite a bit, but really tried to focus on quality.  Seemed to go okay.

Ab Ripper was good too.  I think because there weren't really any legs involved in the main workout, so I could do the bicycles, kick outs, etc without it killing my legs and lower back.  Getting stronger.

Yoga tomorrow!

P90x Day 16 - Plyometrics

I forgot how tough this workout is.  I made it from start to finish, only breaking when they did, so that was something.  I did have to alter a couple of exercises half way through them, but nothing like the last two times.

I think this program might be working.

More tomorrow.

P90x Day 15 - Chest & Back & Ab Ripper X

Nice workout today.  Improved on all counts. The second set was tough, but still managed to improve on rep count.  Even Ab Ripper was better.  I started adding two sets of  lower back crunches to see if that will help my back.

Despite the improvement I still look like i swallowed my 20 year old self.  Probably has to do with the beer.

Oh well.

P90x Day 14 - X Stretch

Almost missed today, due to a certain beer festival, but managed to get it in just now.  Technically, it can be a day off, but somehow I feel like if I do actually take a day off, it would be easier to take another day, so really trying to stick to it.    Anyhow, slightly more flexible than last week, which is good.  Could be because by BAC level is .55.  Well maybe not.

Looking forward to the next week, trying to improve on all fronts.

The end.

P90x Day 13 - Kenpo X

I think I said this last time, but I like this.  It's nice to really get the heart rate going and sweat.  My kicks are getting better, but very awkward when kicking backward.  Other than that, it's nice workout, especially since it goes by so quickly.

Stretching tomorrow.  Yee Haw!

P90x Day 12 - Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X

I was pretty tired during this workout, but managed to push through it.  Man those one legged wall sits are a killer.  I can tell I'm getting a bit stronger as I am able to do more pull ups than last week, or maybe it's I'm not as sore.  Hard to tell.

Starting next week, I think I'm going to try doing ab ripper x first, as opposed to last.  I'm really finding my legs are preventing me from doing more reps.  Or maybe I just need to get stronger.

Kicking and punching tomorrow.

P90X Day 11 - Yoga X

Man, yoga is tough.  I know, I said that last time, but I was sweating like crazy today.  I was definitely able to do more of the poses and holds longer, but still had to cut short a few of them.  There are one or two I simply can't do, so I modify the heck out of it.  I'm liking this one though.

that is all.

P90x Day 10- Shoulders & Arms and Ab Ripper X

Nice workout today. The vanity workout as it's all about arms and shoulders, hence the name.
Managed to increase resistance all around as well as manage decent reps.

Ab Ripper X is getting better all the time.  Still can't do all 25 reps for each excercise, but I can feel like the core is getting stronger.

I'm so proud of myself that I will undo today's workout with a nice, frothy beer from my kegerator.

P90x Day 9 - Plyometrics

Just as I was wishing for more cardio, this session came up.  All the jumping, squatting, etc is tiring primarily, because there is literally only about 2 minutes of break time in the 58 minute workout.  Looking back at my notes, last time I had to pause it about 6 times, where this time it was only 2, so yeah, there's that.

Feeling good though.

On to tomorrow.

P90x Day 8 - Chest & Back and Ab Ripper X

So day 8:  a repeat of day 1.  I honestly thought that despite still being sore, that I'd improve on all my reps, etc, etc.  But alas, no. I improved in a couple of sets, but overall the same, and in some cases less.  I also decided that I am alternating between standard pull ups and using the bands, because my weight is a little too much and I'd rather get 15-20 reps in than, 3-6.  I'm determined by the end of this thing to do as many reps as they do with each workout. We'll see.

Ab Ripper was much better. I can feel core getting a bit stronger.  Interestingly, my real points of pain are in my upper legs, hip flexors and very lower back. I'm hoping this changes soon.

Lastly, I think I might try adding in 1 or 2 sessions of cardio x into the days where there is less of cardio workout.  As I only really feel like I've accomplished something if I've managed to produce a couple of gallons of sweat.  We'll see, I'll probably give this another week as it is.

P90x Day 7 - Stretch X

Nice to have a break from other exercises.  At one point in my life I was pretty flexible, but after years of sitting in front of computer for hours on end, I'm not surprised how tight everything is.  It probably doesn't help that I'm stretching in a room that has no heat in it, so it's like 50 degrees, but still, I'm really not that flexible.

This is one area that I hope to see some improvement over the next few weeks.

One week down!

The end.

P90X Day 6 - Kenpo X

I like this workout. Gets the heartrate going and worked up a decent sweat. Nice to not have to mess with chin up bar, weights, etc too. Need to work on flexiblity and learn the moves. A few times I was pretty awkard punching and kicking in weird random directions. Tomorrow is a stretching day, which I'm also looking forward to.

I'm really looking forward to not being so achy and sore.

6 days down, 84 more to go.

P90x Day 5 - Legs & Back and Ab Ripper X

Worked out during Lunch break.  Probably the best workout so far, which isn't saying much since it's only the 5th day, but still, it was nice.  My back is weak, so it'll be interesting to see if there is improvement in this area.

Ab Ripper X went better. Managed to stay pretty close to the reps, but my stupid hips and lower back are hurting more than my back.

tomorrow, I get to kick and punch the air.

hasta manana.

P90x - Day 4 - Yoga X

So the thing about Yoga is...it's really hard. I'd say I managed to hold and maintain about 35% of the poses, and I'm quite certain my form is really ugly, but I stuck with it. As the days, and weeks go on, I'm looking forward to coming back to this session. I'm hoping I get more flexible, and in turn, correct my posture and grow 3 or 4 inches. That's got to be possible.

Legs and back tomorrow, along with that stupid Ab Ripper X.

Bring it on. but gently, and with care.

P90x Day 3 - Shoulders & Arms and Ab Ripper X

Seriously?  Two Ab Ripper workouts in the first week, let alone two days apart. It's crazy.  That part is only like 15 minutes, but man it's a killer.

The shoulders and arms workout was fine...most likely because I've been so sore that it felt good to stretch it out.  I'm only using resistance bands, which is taking a little getting used to.

Looking forward to Yoga tomorrow...one of my primary goals is to improve my posture so I don't look like an armadillo.  yes, an armadillo.

that is all.

P90X Day 2 - Plyometrics aka "jump a lot"

Yeah. So pretty sore from Day 1, which made doing this 60 minute Plyometrics session a bit difficult.
I'd like to say it was my cold that caused me to have to pause it a few times, but really, that would be a bold faced lie.

Luca joined me for a few minutes and well, he was jumping faster and higher than I was... No dinner for him tonight.

It's incredible though, for some fairly basic movements it really is painful.  Seriously, why would anyone willingly subject themselves to this, I don't know.  But if it means guilt free beer drinking, I guess I'll keep going.

P90x Day 1 - Chest & Back and Ab Ripper

Inspired by Mark, whom I've never met in person, but had the pleasure of working with briefly, remotely.  I decided that if I was going to have a two tap kegerator in my house, I needed to do something to counter that plus some.

I'm not really planning on measuring body fat, weight, etc.  I'll know if it's working if I can get into some clothes I used to wear a couple of years ago.   Also, not really planning to alter the diet too much, maybe reduce my portion control.    Really the only thing that has changed, which prompted me to find a program like P90x is that I just stopped doing any type of regular excercise due to having a couple of small kids in the house, working exclusively from home, and well, apathy I suppose.

Anyhow, this first workout was, well, tough.  I completed all the sets, but very low reps.  The ab ripper...um yeah...my beer storage didn't like that one.

Needless to say, I'm excited to start doing something.

Lou Ferrigno, here I come.
